FROM THE EDITOR
With another Canadian winter almost behind us, and the opportunities of Spring finally in the air, I am very
pleased to bring you another edition of Private Capital Markets the national magazine of the Private Capital
Markets Association of Canada (PCMA).
As we begin 2015, I am happy to report that the PCMA continues to grow and is more energized and focused
than we have ever been. Fresh from a renewal of new leadership on our Board of Directors and with a new
national Chair at the helm, we have set out an aggressive agenda of new projects, and more grassroots activities
across Canada to help bring us together. This edition of Private Capital Markets, which you may note is a more
manageable size than in the past (for which the Editor is grateful) reflects a period of relative calm on the regulatory
front as we await the next round of prospectus exemption proposals most likely in June. This regulatory lull has
allowed us to focus more on our members and their businesses, and our Annual Conference in Toronto this May
to be kicked off by our federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver. You won’t want to miss this one!
In this edition we spend some time considering what critics of the OM have been saying, and we help you
understand the final results of the Accredited Investor and Minimum Amount prospectus exemption reviews
that were two years in the making. We spend some time getting to know some key personalities and firms in
our industry and understanding the opportunities the OM and crowdfunding may bring to our private markets.
It is disappointing that we’ll have another round of public comment on crowdfunding and the long overdue OM
in Ontario, but we will do our best to stay optimistic. The good news is, change is coming, and the need for new
capital raising tools has remained a key regulatory priority.
Our goal in publishing Private Capital Markets is to bring our members and our readers closer to the issues
that impact our private markets, and offer insight they won’t find anywhere else. We regularly hear that the
in-depth articles on key regulatory issues, compliance challenges, business opportunities and member profiles
are a welcome addition to our industry and they continue to be a hallmark of the PCMA. As an association,
the PCMA succeeds when our members succeed, and our readers continue to tell us that the Private Capital
Markets magazine is another great benefit of the PCMA and it is their best source for serious industry analysis,
context, dialogue and debate.
We hope you enjoy this edition of Private Capital Markets and the enhanced digital publishing platform that
has brought together every article from every previous edition into a searchable library of sophisticated
industry analysis and advice. If you haven’t read Private Capital Markets online you really should check it out:
