Message from the PCMA Chair
Chair, Board of Directors
Private Capital Markets
Association of Canada
The PCMA is now in its 14th year as an
organization that represents the interests of
Canadian business professionals who work in
the private capital markets. We have, and will
continue to be, the effective national voice of
the private capital markets and represent the
interests of our members to the regulators,
government, industry and the public.
On May 9th we will gather in Toronto for
the 5th Annual PCMA Private Capital Markets
Conference and I look forward to seeing many
familiar faces there and welcoming new members
who may be attending for the first time.
Once again, we have an excellent line up
of speakers, panelists, exhibitors and PCMA
award winners who have made outstanding
contributions to the private markets in 2015.
This year, we will share more stories about
successful private market transactions from the
people who made them happen.
Our conference will be opened by some of
our founding sponsors, and then Michael Gregory,
Deputy Chief Economist at BMO Capital Markets
will be providing his Capital Market Economic
Overview, and our closing keynote address will
be from the Honourable Charles Sousa, Ontario’s
Minister of Finance. We have a day full of exciting
speakers and panel discussions about important
market and regulatory changes all designed to
equip PCMA members to understand the issues,
and build or grow successful businesses in our
A lot has happened in our industry since
last year’s conference – the economy has been
volatile along with oil prices, the federal Liberals
have swept in, Alberta became more orange,
Manitoba looks less orange, Ontario now has
the Offering Memorandum Exemption, and
the Cooperative Capital Markets Regulator is
missing a couple of participants. I think we have
a lot to talk about.
I would be remiss if I did not mention our
staff and some changes that took place at the
PCMA this year:
• Geoff Ritchie, our eminent past Executive
Director, now current Vice Chair and Editor
of our magazine, had passed the torch in
December to our new, full-time Executive
Director, Georgina Blanas. Geoff remains
on our executive, so he’s not getting much
down-time. Georgina has an incredible
energy reserve just like Geoff, so we have
an even stronger executive and she has
been a great addition to our association. We
look forward to developing our membership
outreach and operational abilities with
Georgina’s skills and full-time leadership as
• Henrik Leborg, our past CFO has stepped
back and transitioned his role to our new
CFO, Louise Stanois. Henrik continues to
be a strong supporter of our organization.
Welcome to Louise and thank you Henrik.
• No conference can be a success without
excellent planning and we are fortunate to have
Elena Mazur, our Director of Communications
who leads our conference planning.
• Supporting Elena and managing our
membership & operations, Jenya Lorenc
continues to keep things humming along and
is the first point of contact for our members.
I am now in my second year as Chair of
the PCMA, and have been fortunate to work
with great support from our PCMA staff team,
executive and a very collegial and professional
board of directors from across Canada.
Cheers and we hope to see you at our
conference or another upcoming PCMA
