I found the EMDA CFO Education Series: Regulatory Financial Reporting Certificate Program to be a worthwhile and valuable
course and look forward to attending the other courses in the series. The program presenters were knowledgeable, clear
and concise and provided clarification with respect to certain financial and regulatory reporting requirements. Working
through the case studies was well appreciated as it provided a deeper understanding of the nuances involved in calculation
of excess working capital.
As with IIROC and MFDA members, exempt market dealers need an association that recognizes the uniqueness of
participants in the exempt market industry and one that can be a voice and advocate for EMDs especially in consulting with
regulators with respect to the creation or modification of laws which directly impact EMDs. With the implementation of
National Instrument 31-103, EMDs are now held to a higher standard and subject to capital and proficiency requirements,
which was not the case in prior years. In order to understand the laws and requirements that EMDs are required to adhere
to, it is imperative that organizations such as the EMDA continue to offer courses to educate and assist participants in the
exempt market industry with meeting their regulatory obligations, and also to ensure that this vital area of capital raising
is not lost or become unavailable to investors.
